Lately, I have noticed some super rad sneakers popping up in magazines, walking down the runways and perfectly tied onto the manicured feet of celebrities. I think I may have lost touch with the Tiffany that used to own a pair of chucks in every color. Now, my sneaker collection consists of my Nike Trainers and a pair of Saucony’s that my Dad bought for me to wear to the October Patriots/Cowboys game. (Ugh…just mentioning the Patriots sends me into a momentary state of depression). Ok, it’s over.
Sneakers, or commonly referred to as “Tennis Shoes” by some people that also call slippers “House Shoes” (strange?), are making a comeback and today I would like to share three brands that have sparked my interest.
THE PEOPLES MOVEMENT
Totally loving the style of these canvas sneaks! The best part about this California based company is their mission.
It’s not just where you are going, but how you get there that counts. Believe in what you wear and make sure it stands for something.
We stand for ideas that lead to positive change and partner with grass root groups struggling to get these messages out. We stand for using organic, recycled and re-purposed materials in our products where ever possible and are constantly searching for the better option.
We stand for “look good, do good, feel good.” Join the cause and start a MOVMT.
This year, The Peoples Movement are teaming up with the Plastic Pollution Coalition, a group dedicated to stopping plastic pollution and it’s toxic impacts on humans, animals and the environment. For every pair of sneakers sold, they will donate $1 directly to the Plastic Pollution Coalition. Read more about the company and view the lookbook at www.thepeoplesmovement.com
People’s Shoes of Italy. This brand has been around for almost 100 years and is a long time favorite for taking Italians from the city to the beach. They can be dressed up, dressed down and come in a variety of colors and styles for Men, Women and Children. Recently, the Olsen twins have signed on as Creative Director for the brand and will be designing a high-end capsule for Spring so keep a look out! You can find Superga shoes on any major online footwear site, such as Zappos or Endless.
Here are some shots of Celebs in their Supergas:
A Brazilian sportswear clothing company founded by sports enthusiast Oskar Metsavaht. Along with the chic collection of urban-luxe clothing, their shoes are quite impressive as well. What intrigued me most about this company was the fact that they used fish skins (discarded by the seafood industry) and other eco-fabrics to craft their shoes and accessories. The skins come from sustainable fish varieties including salmon, tilapia, and pirarucu. Osklen is becoming one of the most influential brands in the world according to WGSN.
